Where it gets interesting
This European fruit tree produces a fine-grained veneer with a uniform texture. Colors range from rosy cream to light reddish-brown, often with natural pith marks. Used in Europe much like black cherry in the U.S., it is a popular high-quality domestic hardwood. When fumed it turns a rich dark brown, and when stained black it is often used as a substitute for ebony.
