When architects began exploring veneer for the Cobb Performing Arts Center, they used our online veneer library to explore hundreds of species before deciding on Makore – a rich, brown-red African wood. But with 25 Makore logs in our inventory—each unique—they weren’t done yet. We helped expedite the specification by emailing electronic samples of each log, allowing designers to narrow the field by eliminating those they felt were too light, too dark, too stripy, or too figured. Within hours, they were down to four logs – a process that used to take weeks. We provided finished samples of those logs to aid in the final selection and approval of the perfect flitch for Cobb.
